Friendly Brittany Neighbor

When we arrive at our house in Brittany, we had fresh artichokes and strawberries waiting for us. They were from a very friendly neighbor across the street. Ann and Jacques spent three years in the US in the 1980s and were the only ones in the village who were willing and able to have a conversation in English.
A very small portion of Ann's garden is shown above. It was impressive and inspirational. They also had a swing set and a large open yard which they invited us to use anytime. It became a daily (or several times per day) event to Go Visit Ann. Luke learned to ride a two-wheeler bike in her yard.

The last week we were there, Ann's granddaughters from French Guiana came to visit. These three girls didn't speak any English, and our boys didn't speak any French but they still had a fantastic time together. Ann had been a biology teacher, so when we went to the beach the kids gathered all sorts of plants and animals from the tide pools.

Before the granddaughters left, we made a second pinata and taught them how to do it, which was a new concept both for Ann and the grandkids. They had fun, though!
